La Catedral De La Tierra

This article is an update from the original article.

In my film for TV business I’ve met some creative people like Alberto Thirion of Durango, Mexico.  Actually, I meet creative people every time I go out to film.  Since I concentrate my filming efforts on preserving events that will soon become past events I often meet people that re-enact history.  Many times I film stories that have been put to music and dance.  An example would be our own Latin Ballet of Virginia performing Dias de Muertos, Day of the Dead.  What I’ve personally experienced is a new found interest in learning about new cultures, the people and their interest in preserving their heritage.

I am tickled to announce our new gallery, the Alberto Thirion Gallery.  We are working on an article to appear during the Christmas Holiday since my friend, Alberto, is a painter of religious art.  I find that Alberto’s paintings remind me of a past American painter, Grandma Moses.  Many of you may remember Grandma Moses and her unique style of painting.  In her style it was easy to know what her paintings were about.  Who said that art had to be complicated to convey a message or a feeling? 

I am not an art critic because I write about art in this particular article.  However, I am a friend of artists and will at times convey/display their creative endeavors on this site.  Originally I had written that Alberto’s art not only reminded me of Grandma Moses, but of another character in his style.  I will not mention this other character style, but I will say that the viewing and memory of a particular painting does not seem to want to leave my mind.  It has been at least three nights before bedtime that this painting is pictured in my mind’s eye.  La Catedral De La Tierra is this painting and it is pictured above.  When I wrote the original article a few days ago I had inserted three of his paintings.  Today I have taken two of the paintings out of the gallery so you can concentrate on Alberto’s painting, La Catedral De La Tierra.  Alberto Thirion’s paintings will begin to appear in this gallery and will be updated on a regular basis until the Holidays.

One might wonder how some of the photography or paintings on this site refer to rock and roll.  Well, in reality some of them don’t, but since James and I capture history in the making we are constantly exposed to new artists, music or not, working in mediums that we are not normally exposed to.  In music it could be instruments that we have never seen or heard.  As photographers of historical events we aim to display those people that we come across who are involved in politics, music, dance, culture, art and history.

Parece hasta una obviedad. Sin embargo, me pregunto: las oportunidades ¿se presentan o las creamos? ¿cómo aprovechar una oportunidad que no estamos viendo? ¿Qué es lo que hace que una oportunidad sea tal, y no otra cosa? "Un hombre sabio se procurará más oportunidades de las que se le presentan." Francis Bacon Por ejemplo, se dice que "crisis y oportunidad son dos caras de la misma moneda". ¿Qué es lo que las diferencia, entonces? Si la moneda (el suceso, los hechos) es una, tal vez la única diferencia esté en cuál de ambos lados estoy mirando. Volviendo a la pregunta anterior: ¿Qué es lo que hace que una oportunidad sea tal, y no otra cosa? Podríamos decir que lo que hace que una oportunidad sea una oportunidad, es nuestra mirada. La diferencia entre crisis y oportunidad está en nuestra manera de mirar… Crisis y Oportunidad significan "Cambio". En un caso, es un cambio para peor: perdemos algo. En el otro es un cambio para mejor: ganamos algo. Sin embargo, en todo cambio, siempre hay algo que perdemos y siempre hay algo que ganamos.  Si aprendemos a mirar, si nos focalizamos en las posibilidades que nos brinda el cambio, estaremos transformando la aparente crisis en una oportunidad.  "Cada día la vida te da una nueva oportunidad para recomenzar, cambiar y crear un destino diferente." Podemos elegir, podemos cambiar, podemos provocar cambios a nuestro alrededor.   Pablo Buol     Cuento para Reflexionar Un hombre encontró un capullo de una mariposa y se lo llevó a casa para poder ver a la mariposa cuando saliera del capullo. Un día vió que había un pequeño orificio y entonces se sentó a observar por varias horas, viendo que la mariposa luchaba por poder salir de capullo.  El hombre vio que forcejeaba duramente para poder pasar su cuerpo a través del pequeño orificio en el capullo, hasta que llegó un momento en el que pareció haber cesado de forcejear, pues aparentemente no progresaba en su intento. Pareció que se había atascado.  Entonces el hombre, en su bondad, decidió ayudar a la mariposa y con una pequeña tijera cortó al lado del orificio del capullo para hacerlo mas grande y así fue que por fin la mariposa pudo salir.  Sin embargo al salir la mariposa tenía el cuerpo muy hinchado y unas alas pequeñas y dobladas El hombre continuó observando, pues esperaba que en cualquier instante las alas se desdoblarían y crecerían lo suficiente para soportar al cuerpo, el cual se contraería al reducir lo hinchado que estaba.  Ninguna de las dos situaciones sucedieron y la mariposa solamente podía arrastrarse en círculos con su cuerpecito hinchado y sus alas dobladas… Nunca pudo llegar a volar.  Lo que el hombre en su bondad y apuro no entendió, fue que la restricción de la apertura del capullo y la lucha requerida por la mariposa, para salir por el diminuto agujero, era la forma en que la naturaleza forzaba fluidos del cuerpo de la mariposa hacia sus alas, para que estuviesen grandes y fuertes y luego pudiese volar.  La libertad y el volar solamente podían llegar luego de la lucha y al privar a la mariposa de la lucha, también le fue privada su salud. Algunas veces las luchas son lo que necesitamos en la vida. Si nos permitiesen progresar por nuestras vidas sin obstáculos, nos convertiriamos en inválidos.  No podríamos crecer y ser tan fuertes como podríamos haberlo sido.  Crisis y Oportunidad Las crisis muchas veces se pueden pronosticar, presagiar y vaticinar, pero la idea que me interesa es que también se las puede provocar. ¿Por qué este interés de provocar crisis?: Porque las crisis crean el contexto y la oportunidad, a veces único, donde aprender algo nuevo o transformarse en algo mejor. La crisis nos arranca de la zona de seguridad de nuestra vida y nos lanza más allá de nuestros propios límites y limitaciones. Es como en la naturaleza, todo parece quieto y estable por un tiempo hasta que de pronto estallan las presiones de cambio y crecimiento acumuladas. Las crisálidas estallan, los pimpollos estallan, los volcanes estallan, las olas estallan, los huevos estallan, la tierra estalla, las tormentas estallan… los conflictos estallan, las emociones estallan, el cuerpo estalla… y una nueva instancia aparece, una nueva vida ocurre, o un nuevo equilibrio se establece. A veces la crisis, el caos, es la única oportunidad de estallar y convertimos en la clase de persona que deseamos ser. La crisis, dejada a su merced suele ser un evento explosivo e imprevisible, un corte, una separación. Bajo nuestro dominio personal podría ser un proceso, un estado de decisión. En este caso la crisis es un arte, el arte de provocar y desplegar las crisis en el tiempo para poder asimilarlas, entrar en un estado de permanente aprendizaje, y así llevarnos fluidamente hacia el futuro. Estamos inexorablemente disparados hacia el futuro, hacia allí vamos querramos o no darnos cuenta, así que nos conviene disfrutar del viaje y no resistirnos. En caso contrario, las crisis estallan sin previo aviso lanzándonos brutalmente hacia adelante en procesos de aceleraciones y desaceleraciones convulsivas tremendamente riesgosas y de resultados inciertos.
